1. Three Crests

   You may wonder what the crests on a Barbour label symbolise. Well... the answer is, Barbour have been a long standing supplier to the British Royal Family and the crest system is used to display how many members of said family they are supplying at the time. In the 1990s, Barbour would supply Prince Phillip, Queen Elizabeth & Prince Charles. Since the passing of two of the family members, the crests have now gone down to one.

   

   2. The Basic White Label

Another way to distinguish the vintage nature of a Barbour piece is through the label stitched within. This is usually found sewn on the label or on the inside of a pocket. In the late 80s & early 90s, Barbour would have a simple sewn-in white label with just the serial number and the model name of the jacket contained. Later models would see the introduction of a barcode system.

3. The Iconic Tartan

   Lastly, a sure-fire way to help guide you to finding a true vintage piece is the tartan within. Most vintage Barbour jackets would use the classic green and tan check tartan pattern. Barbour would deviate from this on certain models, opting for a darker tartan, however the material on a vintage jacket will always be woven in and not printed on, as seen on later issues of Barbour models.
